Day 12.

 My last day on the farm I cleaned out one of the barns on the property and reorganized the tools. I was put on this task on my own and it took a majority of the day. Farmer Jim wanted all the lawn mowers to be cleaned out, and to have new filters put in them. At first I was not educated enough to put a filter on a lawnmower, however it was not too bad. I did this for about five lawnmowers. After that I made sure the oil was good in the tractors, so they would run right in the fields. This was pretty interesting to do because when farmer Jim taught me this he said it’s kind of like checking your car oil. After that I re-organized and WD-40 all of the tools and hung them back up on the walls. This wasn’t too bad but dealing with all of this WD-40 was quite annoying. It just made my hand super greasy. After that I just made sure the floor was clean in the barn and made sure all the wood chips, grass, and dirt was all off the ground and there was a spotless floor.

Weekly reflection (week 1)

  Throughout our first week of senior project I’ve learned very Key lessons of farming. The farm we work at is outside of Detroit Michigan, and us four do a whole lot while were there. We’ve learned the importance of having a healthy water system even if it’s natural or by pump. We dug out big trenches while we were at the farm for the first couple days and had to make sure the water was flowing in at the right pace and it wasn’t damaging the crops. We also planted a bunch of onions and potato’s in the first couple days of us being there. Doing these tasks weren't very hard, they're just very time consuming. Planting onions pretty much took us the entire day due to how small they were, and giving them enough space so they don’t overlap with each other. Somewhere around day three or 4 we had to dig these massive holes 6 feet apart from each other. Day 5

5/13/22 Hours worked 10 Today at the farm we did a little bit of weeding. We weeded to get ready to plant some vegetables in the incoming days. We also dug a very large trench today for the watering system for the farm. This took us a good amount of time to do throughout the day and we need to make sure we matted down the dirt after so it will not fall into the trench when water came through. We also planted a bunch of potatoes today. Planting potatoes was much different than planting onions due to that we had to dig much deeper. Planting potatoes was honestly and it was not as annoying as playing the onions.

day 8

 Hours worked 10  5/18/22 Today we Stacked this big wood trailer today for the restaurant called Bricks. The person who owns this farm also owns the restaurant. This took us quite a bit of time for how big the trailer was. After that we learned about minerals and went to go find minerals in the woods. I’m still not too familiar with everything about this but it has to do with the dears and feed. This is really interesting also a lot of fun because we went riding on ATVs in the woods. Riding on ATVs really made it more more fun of a time. This was really interesting to learn about and I wish I had more time to learn a little more about it.
